Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery promotes weight loss and health improvements. It typically results in the restriction of excess food intake, making the body feel fuller more quickly. Malabsorption–the process of limiting calorie/nutrient intake–can also result from some bariatric surgeries.

Bariatric surgery should be a supplement to regular dieting and exercise to combat weight regain.

The most common types of bariatric surgeries include adjustable gastric band, Roux-en-Y bypass, and vertical sleeve gastrectomy.
