June First is National Cancer Survivors Day!
This day is to demonstrate that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality.
Roseanna Webber RN, Western Surgical Group’s chief nursing officer, is also a patient of ours, and a proud breast cancer survivor.
“In 2014, I went in for my annual mammogram. I have a history of breast cancer in my family. My Mom is a survivor (she is 88 years old) and my baby sister died from breast cancer 2 weeks before I was diagnosed. She was 51. These three words, “you have cancer”, change your entire life. Although I was certainly no stranger to this monster, I was nonetheless scared to death of it.”
I, however, was one of the lucky ones and this luck began with the place and the people who I work for and with. I have no idea how I would have made it through this diagnosis and its treatment without the love, affection and professional care that I received from the doctors and the employees at Western Surgical Group.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, but first, the AMAZING Dr. Frieda Hulka, for not only being there for me as my surgeon, but also as my friend. Her talent as a surgeon and her expert care was only one of the things that got me through.
Dr. Sharon Wright, another of Western Surgical Group’s BEST, was my rock. As a relatively new doctor to our practice, she held my hand through my biopsy (literally) and she traveled to the lake on the day of my diagnosis and saved me from the immense fear that I was feeling. These two women have been here for me through it all and they remain by my side each and every day.
The best thing about working for this group is that I get to watch this care and concern being displayed for all the patients who enter our doors. This regimen of care is not privy to me as an employee of this group. Every patient has the same opportunity to feel the love, not only given by Dr. Hulka and Dr. Wright, but by the entire staff of practitioners known as WESTERN SURGICAL GROUP.
I hope that there will one day be a cure for this horrible, ugly disease known as cancer. Until such time, I can tell you with certainty that choosing Western Surgical Group will be the best decision that you have made in your plan for care!”
