The surgeons in the Division of Endocrine Surgery specialize in the surgical treatment of endocrine diseases.  Endocrine glands secrete hormones which then travel through the blood to evoke a response in cells throughout the body.  Examples of endocrine glands and their hormones include the thyroid gland located in the front of the neck.  This gland secretes thyroid hormone which helps regulate the body’s overall metabolism.  The parathyroid glands are located behind the thyroid gland and secretes parathyroid hormone with regulates calcium levels in the body.  The adrenal glands are located on top of the kidneys and secrete adrenaline, steroids, and other hormones to regulate salt levels, blood pressure, and kidney function. Our surgeons offer comprehensive surgical management for both malignant and benign disease of endocrine glands. In addition to cancer, our surgeons treat disease such as hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules and goiters, and hyperparathyroidism. They work closely with your endocrinologist or primary doctor to provide optimum care before, during, and after surgery.  Our surgeons use advanced techniques such as nerve monitoring to identify and protect vital structures that are commonly encountered during surgical procedures.
