House Foods Tofu Shirataki
Back in February we did a Healthy Lifestyle Challenge to try a new food every day. We discovered a tofu noodle substitute. Read on before you crinkle your nose. This is a great pasta substitute, especially if you are managing your weight or have had weight loss surgery. A serving size is 4 oz, or half the package, and is only 10 calories with 2 grams of fiber. Low calorie, low carb pasta (or almost pasta)! The “noodles” are not sticky from the starch like traditional pasta so they are not going to cause sticking problems or swell in your pouch if you’ve had weight loss surgery. I made a Mediterranean-type sauce with chicken, tomatoes, kalamata olives, some herbs and sprinkled with feta cheese. Delicious! You can find more recipes at House Foods.
The shirataki comes in different shapes from spaghetti to macaroni. You will find it in the refrigerator section at the store next to the tofu.
