Tobacco use & Bariatric Patients
I recently read an article on tobacco use in bariatric patients and felt the need to get some information out there. Obesity, alcohol consumption, gambling, and tobacco use are all considered addictive behaviors with a hormonal background not completing understood by health professionals. What we do know is that smoking after weight loss surgery can put patients at risk for complications. Most concerning, is the incidence of gastric ulcers in bypass patients. If tobacco is an addiction in your life, please consider a tobacco cessation program.
