In July 2014 program dietitian Vicki Bovee and her husband, Bill, committed to do a weekly challenge for a year to improve their health and lifestyle. Vicki and Bill decided to tackle a variety of challenges to eat better, eat more mindfully, and improve physical health and emotional well-being because there is always room for improvement. They successfully completed a year of challenges but that didn’t mean they were finished.

Challenge #54 And so it continues

After completing our year of healthy lifestyle challenges Bill and I felt pretty proud of ourselves. We kept our weights stable. We looked at what, how much, and how we were eating much more so than before. We were also aware of what we needed to do physically to take care of ourselves whether it be dealing with stress or keeping a positive attitude.

A few weeks after we ended the last challenge in July 2015, Bill was missing it. He missed the focus and the fact that we were working on something together to make us healthier. For me, I was glad to have a break because it was a lot of work to research and write up the challenges. Then the weeks and months went by and friends and patients started asking if we were going to do any more challenges. And Bill wanted to start them up again.

So dear readers, we are back to our Healthy Lifestyle Challenges but this time we are doing them on a monthly basis. I can tell you this…focusing on something for a week doesn’t make it a habit, although some of the habits really stuck. We plan to repeat some of the challenges that continue to need our effort and do them for longer than a week. Even with an entire year there were challenges on the list that we never did and during the year I was continuing to add to the list. Building and maintaining healthier habits never stop. I suspect my list will never end.

Follow along with us as we embark on our journey. Our January challenge has us dealing with the fallout from the holidays and working on our 2016 goals.
